Thank you for dropping by, aChethan.

1. It is possible to look from the other end, whether it is about Gandhi or about anybody, without the need for him or her to be an Indian or a Pakistani. The previous commentator's idea was to do that, without being satisfied by those "nAlugu manchi mukkalu".
2. Perhaps Vamsi and Sastry know how to direct and write such a song, and perhaps how to sell it, but it may be giving them too much credit to say that they know "evariki elA cheptE ardham avutundo".
3. Gandhi's influence on various social themes can't be ignored, whether it is on caste or or religion.
4. Thinking and discussing about caste is useful, especially for people who are against that system which has been officially abolished aeons ago.

Sirivennela seems to have written what is popular notion of Gandhi. That he is not a person but a power. Gandhi's timelessness never sinks in as he is not discussed enough at school or college level. So we miss out on the context in which he was relevant. He might have improved conditions of Dalits by naming them as Harijans (a new identity), thereby using religion as a tool. As a side effect this separated them from the main stream. Ambedkar argued this with Gandhi but he was not a popular leader and never given much importance. Mayawati recently exhumed this argument and called Gandhi "Natakbaazi". People hate Gandhi thinking he stood up for Pakistan when it was in dire straits after independence (after all the migration violence). This cost him his life. Now, like all the leaders he is forgotten. Can we see a true Gandhian, walking and talking, on his Idea phone? I think Gandhi is gone for a toss and people are too intelligent to practice his methods. But he is still a figure head. By the way, more roads are named after Ambedkar than Gandhi but Gandhi beats all of the leaders with his imprint on currency. Nehru himself dissociated with Gandhian methods. For him Gandhi was just a tool to get a toffee called independence and use it the way he wanted.

May be I hyped it up quite a bit. (I seem to be doing this more often recently even with others).
